Default Clutch Pedal Spring??? Broke.

Has anyone had an issue with a spring located at the pivot point of the clutch pedal (mounting point) breaking?? Had mine fall out last week, spring was busted in half...the clutch does not feel any different. Does this need to be replaced? What was it's purpose?

Many folks - myself included - remove the spring because of the better clutch-feel and modulation experienced without it. I believe it's only purpose is to ease the effort somewhat, although I personally noticed very little change after removal.

Mine broke and fell out a couple years ago. I did not replace it. Feels fine to me and no issues so far. I have 52K on my Z now and 15K since it broke. Don

Mine not only broke, but broke while I was shifting into second gear under hard acceleration and jammed between the clutch pedal and the pedal stop. Thought I had completely destroyed my clutch plate with the amount of slippage under heavy load the resulted from the jam. Once I got the car home and figured out what really had happened I was able to remove the remainder of the spring from the clutch. Drove around for several days without the spring without any problems. Checked the service manual out of curiosity and found that the purpose for the spring is to assist with pedal effort, nothing more. Eventually, I did replace the spring, but that was more because I needed to buy something else for my buddy at the dealership to be able to give me a discount for all the other parts I was buying from him.
