Squeaking pulley? when it rains...driving me crazy!!
When it rains, a squeak starts under my hood and will last for 3-4 weeks before it goes away. It won't squeak unless it rains again. I took the car in twice...first time got a new belt...the second time they said they need to adjust the tensioner...neither helped. My logic says maybe a ball bearing on a pulley? Can I oil it? My car is a '97 with 70K miles. Hmmmm. Thanks for any help.
I've had several GM vehicles that did this. Its the seals on the belt tensioner or idler pulley. My wifes 1997 S10 Blazer, 2004 Trailblazer, and my 1994 Camaro all did it at one point, esp with humid weather.

I have it too. There's a TSB out on the IDLER pully and think thats it.
GM Manual says to remove accessory belt to see if it is the AC belt and pullly or acc then to rotate each pully by hand to see if they turn freely. Bet it is the IDLER. BIGHANK
my belts squeaked too during humid and damp weather. to rule out pullys and tensioners, somebody on this forum said to spray water on the belts while the engine is running. if the squeak stops for a few seconds and comes back, then its just the belts. do one of them at a time by the way to isolate which belt it is. I did this test myself and sure enough, it was just the long serpentine belt. I put the Good Year Gatorback on and it has been peaceful since!
We had the s10 blazer one replaced under the extended warranty we had, and the Trailblazer did it from day one. Both still squeak when its humid out or under various other conditions. Chalk it up to a poor seal design. They make noise....one thing I haven't seen the general fix in the past several years.
