Default Vette Motor Thrust Bearing problem

Has any vette owners experianced the thrust bearing going out repeatedly ??? Mine went out at 2200 miles on my new motor , I Had it rebuilt again ,,, And Now the Same thrust bearing went out at 187 miles this time ??? WTF ?

( ...FYI.. The thrust bearing is the center main bearing on the crank shaft )


Some say the transmission problems I've had caused the problem ... Mike At Century Transmission say's thats not possible , since the transmission is a rear mount and cant balloon the converter enuff to due damage to the motor ,,, he says the torque Tube has 2 carrier bearings to stop it as well as rubber U-joints and a Spline at the flywheel and all these things will not let the tranny push foward to cause this problem , Like it can on a F-Body ....

Wrong bearing size?
Installation damage?
Clogged oil hole?
Line bore of the crank or cap on backwards etc?

Could be lots of things.
Whats the story on the motor?

Brand new 408 Iron Block ...

You say the thrust bearing is going out, Well seems your crank shaft my be the problem. All the thrust bearing does is keep the crank from walking back and forth. If you have a bent crank even .010 bent will ruin the bearing thrust surface. So have the crank cheked.

Did it accually spin the bearing? And if so did it wear the sides of the bearing saddle.

When I had the motor rebuilt 187 miles ago ,,, The motor shop had the crank checked and turned 10,000 th. ..
And I feel sure they'll recheck that this time too ...

As for did spin a bearing ,,, NO , I took it back quick hopeing not to do any real damage ...

No one else with a fully built motor and tranny In a "C5" ever had this problem ???

The LS2/7 pilot bearing used in place of LS1/6 will cause the problem you describe-
