Default New Intake, is a new MAF needed?

Hello All, sorry for the newbie question, but I am getting ready to purchase a new intake (probably the Halltech Stinger) for my 2000 A4 Vert and I was wondering if I needed to worry about the MAF. Does this type of mod require any calibration or a new MAF? Is there anything else I need to consider? Any input would be appreciated.

Also any opinions on the Stinger would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have a stinger and love it. You do not need a new MAF. I have a H/C car and the stock MAF works just fine

...and while you have the MAF off for the installation, you could use an aerosol spray cleaner to the sensor wires...make sure you sure the correct product though.

If your MAF sensor has a screen in it, you can take it out for a gain of 5-10 HP and LB/Ft.

If all you are doing is an intake mod you're stock MAFS is fine as is.

I would not remove the screen unless you plan to do other more extensive engine mods or plan to get the car tuned. You won't gain much and some cars don't react well to the additional flow without tuning (idle surge, poor tip in). In addition, (if you don't do the tune) you could end up with more timing advance at WOT because the MAFS will read less flow than actual and the ecm will interpret that as less load than actual and increase the timing, enough to get into detonation especially if running less than 93 octane fuel. The LSX engines don't like detonation.

Just my .02, Good luck with the new intake.

I just installed the halltech stinger in my 97 6mn. At first I had the stock intake with paper filter. Then I did the zip tie mod and felt a power difference (the engine revved faster). Then I thought if the zip tie worked so well the halltech stinger will kick a**. Guess what, there was no difference between the zip tie mod and the halltech stinger. I would say do the ziptie with K&N filter or vararam cai which is proven or just get headers which is also proven for horse power. Like the other forums say, all intakes are about the same as the zip tie mod unless it it is a true ram air or a true cold air intake such as vararam.

I agree with those who say to keepthe STOCK MAF and if it has a screen--leave it in---The comp will adjust the fuel trims on it's own up to a point--most air boxes or intakes wil not require additional tuning--I think it will adjust + or - 25 % then throw a code--If anything at WOT it will lean out the AFR some but from the factory setting in the mid 11's--that will only help make some HP---dropping it a bit to about the high 11's
