Does anyone have the instruction manual that comes with the SLP headers? I know the kit comes with two heat shield sleeves, but I don't know where they suggest that you put them. Thanks for any help.
I installed a set of these 3 years ago. I assume the heat shield sleeve you are referring to is the orange fiberglass lined tubes they included. I have the full instructions but would ask for your email to send them since I am not sure how to add to one of these posts.
After you email me for the instructions (PDF format) I will send them. I would urge you to take the downcomer assembly to your local exhaust shop and have them cut out the "H" pipe crossover and weld up the 2 openings. This will enable you to isolate and install each side of the engine header system independently. It is a major PITA to install both headers / align with the single downcomer assembly / and get it all assembled correctly. Also, you have to drop the starter to install the passenger side header and if you have starter problems in the future you will have to drop both headers to get the downcomer assembly out due to alignment issues. Besides, with an X-pipe you don't need the little "H" crossover on the downcomers.
What did you use to wrap or insulate the wires around the headers? I did the SLP header install about a year ago and had some issues with the heat on the wires. This weekend i'm having to go back and remove the headers to install a new starter for the reason mentioned above about the down pipe that comes with the kit. I let the exhaust shop weld it together and now to remove the starter i have to remove both headers.. ugh..
But while i'm at it i would like to repair / prevent any further wire issues here. If i have to replace any of the wires, where can i buy high temperature rated wire?? What products are available to protect the wires from the headers? Would one of the woven spark plug wire insulators work? Thanks guys!
