Rim and tire size
It looks like most of the P275/40ZR18 tires are rated for rims up to 11" wide, so I am good for the rear tires.
In tire size P245/45 ZR17, only the Goodyear F1 GS EMT is rated to fit on a rim 9.5" wide. I was looking at getting the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP. Looks like they don't fit the front rims.
Is there another size that will fit the front rims and not create problems with body clearances?

I believe these tires should fit your C5. As I understand it, the key is to make sure the overall diameter of the rear tire/wheel is taller than the overall diameter of the front tire/wheel to ensure the active handling works properly.
Does anyone know if the relative rotation speed of the front and rear tires is a factor in the active handling system? I'm looking at the following combinations and comparing them to the OEM tire sizes.
Goodyear 245/45-17 with 275/40-18 (OEM ratio 1.042254)
Michelin 255/45-17 with 275/40-18 (ratio 1.021879) My preference.
Michelin 255/40-17 with 285/35-18 (ratio 1.037594)
I'm assuming the slightly wider tire will have no real impact on handling or fit inside the wheel wells.
I have seen people here on the forum use a lot of different tire size combinations; the combinations you mention should be of no concern to you at all. There seems to be a fair amount of "flexibility" in the algorithm used to activate the AH - you certainly don't need to precisely stay with the factory's front/rear circumference ratio. Conventional wisdom says just don't let the front tire circumference get bigger than the rear.
The wider tires will fit fine; you can easily run Z06 widths and beyond (obviously up to a point
) on your car w/o problem.
Michelin 255/45-17 with 275/40-18 (ratio 1.0219)
or possibly
Michelin 255/40-17 with 275/40-18 (ratio 1.0656)
Thanks for the help.
