Default Correct me if I am wrong but...

If I have completed the Column Lock Recall/TSB, should my column lock no longer function? Because when I turn off the car, my steering wheel can still lock. This is on a 1999 Coupe.

I have verified with the dealer that the recall was actually performed. I just want to make sure this is normal operation post recall, otherwise I'll drop the dough on a CLB just to put my mind at ease.

Thanks in advance!

The final recall for automatics and manuals is to remove the lockplate and install a wiring harness that contains a relay to satisfy the BCM that the column is unlocked.
Your column should not lock, but you still have to decide if you want to use the GM version or the aftermarket version of the CLB relay to satisfy the BCM electrical requirements.

If you keep the GM version, the actuator is still in the circuit, and you can still hear the actuator cycle, but the column will not actually lock since the lockplate has been removed.

The aftermarket CLB leaves the actuator disconnected, so you should not hear the actuator cycle.

You don't say, and I could not find it in your profile if you have an automatic or manual transmisison, but the column should not lock in either case.

This is on an MN6, the steering wheel definitely locks as I cannot move it whatsoever when the ignition is off. It feels just like any other vehicle I have had when the steering locks.

I recently had a Service Column Lock error on my DIC as well. It came down to be the cause of the battery, and needing a replacement. During the time the error was displayed, the column would not lock. Previous attempts to clear the code with the same battery resulted in it returning immediately. When I replaced the battery the code went away, and the locking function returned, just as it has always performed when I bought it a few months ago.

If it is not supposed to lock as you say, I think I will go ahead and get a CLB in the very near future. If the dealer can't perform the recall properly the first time, who knows what they will do the second time. Thank you!
