Default C6 Z51 Brake Upgrade

I would like to upgrade my C5 brakes to the new Z51's, and was wondering if anyone knows if the caliper braket required for the bigger rotors can be ordered through GM? Would it be the same caliper bracket that comes stock on the C6's.
Thanks!

Yup...been there done that

To run C6 Z51 rotors (13.4" FRT and 13" Rear) on a C5 and reusing the C5 calipers...you need the C6 Z51 brackets which will move the calipers further out to accomodate for the larger diameter rotor. Also be aware that you'll also need to be running 18" wheels up front.

Here are the bracket part numbers 88964166 and 88964167.

Cheers

One more question.
Are those part numbers for left and right, or for front and rear?
Thanks again!

I'm assuming you're doing this for the bling? FYI, C6 Z51 rotors are the same, both left and right sides. With the directional vanes, one side is pulling air from the hub area out, and the other side is pulling air from the rotor edge inward (backwards).

Won't make any difference on the street, but if you autox or track the car...

Have a good one,
Mike

The larger diameter rotors do offer a little more than bling. The reverse rotor still draws air in from the center to the low pressure/high velocity outer edge. Only the efficiency is ever so slightly affected.

Exactly. Believe it or not, this saves GM hundreds of thousands of dollars during the lifetime of each part number.

I'm not going to get drawn into that debate again; as I said in the beginning, they're fine for the street.

Have a good one,
Mike

Too much has been made about the reversing of the rotors but when you do a little analysis you see it really doesn't make much difference. If we could set up a test rig and measure rotor temps with air flowing as it does in a car wheel well the difference would be negilible.

Whoops...been away and just noticed the questions...As others have already stated...

The part numbers I gave were just for the brackets...front and rear. So you would need two of each set.

The main reason I went with this setup was to fill in the space between the rotor and the wheel when Iwent up to 18"s in the front. The rear's I felt were always a little too small looking as well. Not a big fan of large diameter rims and smallish looking rotors. This setup fixed that up real quick, was easy to do, looks good, and not too expensive.

Best of luck on the mod!

People think the vanes in the rotors work like fan blades. The air still goes in at the bottom and out at the top.

Sounds like we need to submit this to MythBusters.
