I will be installing my headders next weekend. I have to get the car to the shop to have the intermediate pipes made. Will the car drive with the open headers and no rear o2 sensors connected?

Yea, but you may get some codes and it will be REAL loud.
When I installed my headers, I reinstalled the mufflers and x-pipe, then took a measurement of the gap between the two. I can't remember if I added 2 or 3 inches to each end for overlap, but the overall lenght was 26".
Just go to your local muffler shop and have them make two pieces out of 2 1/2" pipe, flared to fit over 3" on one end(or have it made out of 3" if your x-pipe is 3"). They charged me $20.
Get two 2 1/2" and two 3" muffler clamps and your done. This is based on the fact that you are going to be cat free. If you are running cats, adjust accordingly.
