I had my brake calipers powder coated and while I was waiting to get the calipers back, the system drained and the master cylinder is now empty. 2 Questions
1) Do you have to bench bleed the master cylinder? It reads in the GM shop manual that you can purge air from the master cylinder while it is mounted (by loosening the hard lines) but it does not say this is acceptable IN PLACE of bench bleeding? Any opinions?
2) It also says to replace the bolts for the brackets and calipers (not slides)? I am not worried about cost but this seems strange. I have to believe that when customers bring their car to dealers that they do not replace these bolts everytime the brakes are removed. Any opinions?
I haven't had any problems doing it that way. Your biggest problem is going to be bleeding the BPMV since the system now has air in it. To get that done you will need to take the car to the dealer so they can bleed the BPMV using their Tech 2.
