Yes, trading out to the C6 Z06 has been done by a lot of people including myself. Straight line ride doesnt change much, but hard cornering sure improves.
Many members have put the C6 Z06 shocks on thier C5 and have had great results. Most say they are as firm or firmer than the Bilstein sport shocks and little firmer that 04 z06 shocks. You can buy the C6 for around $100.00 cheaper (from what I remember) so that makes them very attactive. I went the Bilstein HD due to my style of driving and needs. Otherwise I would have purchased C6 z06 over the sports due to the price advantage. Good luck.

Ditto! Easy swap, This link is for Gene (formerly Fred Beans), forum vendor, reliable, and good prices: http://www.gmpartshouse.com/
I put the C6Z shocks on my '00 with Z51. Although a bit stiffer, it's a HUGE improvement in handling/ride quality. The car used to squat to one side during hard shifts, but that took care of it. The car's lowered on stock bolts, probably about an inch, too.
Only problem I've ever had was on a washboard-quality stretch of interstate, where the shocks and springs almost opposed each other. I felt like I was riding on a horse. It was so bad, my friends following behind me could hear it in my voice on the phone, even though they saw nothing out of the ordniary outside the car.
I have 06 Z06 shocks. I'm running VB&P springs (966 front, 750 rear) Hotchkis bars. I think they work very good. In the near future, I'm probably going to upgrade to Koni's single adjustable. If they come in the right length. I autocross and do track days at least twice a month. I'm real happy with the current setup.
From what I remember the 04 z06 shocks were almost $400.00 delivered. Thats why many members go with Bilsteins (around $299) or the C6 z06 (around $200). Another member told me he thought the C6 were a little firmer than the C5 Z06 shocks but for the price most opt for the Bilstein or 06 Z06 shocks. Im happy with my Bilsteins HD but I dont race.
I too recently put a set of C6 Z06 Shocks on my standard suspension but upgraded with Z06 Bars, 2002 C5. Only drove it 50 miles in December but could instantly tell the difference.
First, the C6 Z06 shocks raised my C5 5/16" in the front and 1/4 inch in the back becasue of the higher pressure. I had already lowered my C5 about 1/2 inch front and back on stock bolts. So I had to readjust back down again. (fyi, because of my lowering technique, see C5 manual, I got instant results, didn't have to drive to settle)
Second, the ride, in my opinion was much stiffer. Again only drove it 50 miles in cold December not warm weather to really get a good feel but I think I decided that I didn't like them. Too stiff for me.
Third, as an alternative, I picked up a set of used (900 mile) C6 Z51 Shocks. I haven't put them on yet but can tell from manually compressing them that they are stiffer than my 18K mile standard shocks and less stiffer than the Z06 shocks.
I only bring this information to you (to confuse everyone) but actually consider the C6 Z51 shocks.
Unfortunately, here in fridged New England, I'm not going to be able to report actual results until the spring. But if anyone else has an opinion on the my thoughts, please chime in.
Incidently, purchased the Z06 Shocks at Fred Beans. Great price.
Just ordered them for my C5, I hope you guys are right about the shocks. Any mods required to install?
TIA,
Malcolm
Hopefully you'll be as happy as I am, given your going with the T1 sways and stiff springs it should be good. I have the Hotchkis sways, but the base spirngs and I love the shocks. They are stiffer, but I think thats they way the Vette should be
No mods to install, but the shocks are very stiff and kind of hard to compress. I'm thinking that the best way to install is to compress them and hold them compressed with something while you put them in. You may not be able to compress them once they are partialy in. I had trouble finding a good solution to holding them compressed. I tried using cord but it was frustrating and the cord streached I'm sure you'll come up with something though

If you have the F45 suspension you will need resistors installed to fool the computer into thinking the selective ride control is still functioning or edit it out via the computer. We found the resistors to be the cheapest and easiest way to go about it.

first person to install the C6 Z06 shocks on a C5. Wrote a big article for Gene Culley on how much I liked them. Last year I used them on the track with T1 bars and stock springs. I was able to stay up with cars with T1, 04 Z06 shocks and Z06 springs. I would use them again this year if I wasnt going to coilovers.
