I got a "Low Oil Level" message just now on the DIC, with about 1200 miles since my last oil change. First, is this normal for oil to be low already?
And second, is it bad to mix in a quart of regular Pennzoil or Mobil 10w30 with the synthetic that's in the car now? Don't wanna do it, but in desperate measures I'm not sure if the two different types of oil will mess things up.
I would never mix the two types. Did you have the dealer do your oil change?
It may be that they did not put enough back into the car. It takes about 6.5 quarts for a C5, a lot more than the four or five we used to put in our older muscle cars.
Regular "dinosaur oil" will mix OK with the Mobil1, but of course does not meet the Chevy spec for warrranty. Certainly better than nothing. Try to avoid mixing different brands of synthetic or semi-synthetic, they may not be compatible with each other.
If you have to add a quart of regular oil to your synthetic in a dire situation then do so...just get your oil changed as soon as you can with the proper Mobil One.
