Hi everyone. I am a C5 owner from the UK. It seems there are only a few of us in England who own a C5 so I'd appreciate any advice given. I have just ordered my first performance mod - Donaldson Blackwing Intake. I have advised to fit the Blackwing and run the car for 30 miles, then disconnect the battery (neg terminal only) for 5 minutes and run the car for another 30 miles. My question is has anybody got experience of this? and does the C5 have security codes for the Radio / CD player that need to be reset when the battery is disconnected?
Just wanted to say that I'm absolutely delighted with my car - performance, looks and exclusivity in the UK.
Re: First time on Forum - United Kingdom (JMs99C5)
Welcome to the forum. The Americans and the British always stand together on world freedom to world class automobiles. Sounds like a good plan for the air intake. The PCM needs some re learning time, and that will come naturally, just drive it like you stole it after install. As far as the radio codes, make sure you know what the code is in order to enter it after re connect of battery. That is if you have set one. If not....you'll be good to go.
Would be interest in how, where and what Vette you obtained. Cold air is your best first mod. Say hello to the Queen for me. :yesnod:
Re: First time on Forum - United Kingdom (lesterbird)
Hi and welcome! Good luck with your ride. There have been several posts on the forum dealing with the relearn process for the PCM after a battery disconnect and mods such as your Blackwing but just driving it at all throttle positions for a while accomplishes the same thing and is a lot more fun :yesnod: What part of the UK are you from? All my ancestors are from the Leisceter(Spelling?)area and were involved in the wool industry. By the way, if you don't enter a theft code for your radio then you have no problem after reconnecting the battery. :D :D :D
Re: First time on Forum - United Kingdom (lesterbird)
Welcome to the Forum, the best place to be when you can't be driving a Vette!
I agree with others, first drive it at varying RPM's (wring it out). If after 30-50 miles you do not feel SOTP improvement, then do the relearn process.
Enjoy every mile! Enjoy every smile! Waaaaaaaaave! :seeya

Welcome to the insane asylum lesterbird !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be careful, this board is addictive and the only treatment is to buy lots of mods and tweak the setup as often as possible.

LS1 Idle Learn Prcedure (from How to Understand, Service and Modify Corvette Fuel Injection and Electronic Engine Management by the late Charles O. Probst)
Here's how you help the computer relearn the minum throttle angle:
(First, disconnect the battery)

Welcome to the forum. Driving around southern Indiana, I don't see too many other 'vettes ... I can only imagine what it must be like in GB. How many other ones are over there that you're aware of ??

Not a Vette, but close. When I visited one of my best friends in London back in '97, there was a new Pontiac Trans Am parked on the street. It really stood out among the other cars. Also, the steering wheel was on the left side.
Re: First time on Forum - United Kingdom (lesterbird)
Welcome, congrats and  on your exclusivity of having a C5 in the UK!! Your fellow Brits will be :D with envy. This forum is a fantastic resource of information. However, a word of warning. Spend to much time in this section of the forum and you you will soon develop a OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder) for modifying your C5.
Trust me thre is no cure.....only aceceptance. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Re: First time on Forum - United Kingdom (thekev_2000)
Lester,
RG here, we spoke the other day Your package is on it's way.
I should have told you and I was remiss not to, but, I appreciate the Brits stepping up for us during this time. Playing of our National Anthem during the changing of the guard was simply wonderful.
Looks like a few members here have answered your question in fine fashion. When I removed my neg cable, I didn't lose any radio pre sets or anything. Even when I change my battery I didn't.

Welcome to the Forum...
My wife and I spent two weeks driving throughout England and Scotland, two years ago. Oh, to have a C5 in England.... just to blast around that guy towing a caravan at 40 mph on a two lane road.
I have emailed you some info on the Blackwing install which I did on my 98.
