Default Different Fuel Gauge problem

My fuel gauge problem is different than most reported here. When I fill up completely, the gauge does not return to full. Instead its only 7/8's full.

Anyone have this issue? I've tried the Techron treatment with no success.

Will a computer reflash solve this issue? I'm hesitant to just go down this path since I have custom PCM programming, but this may be a better alternative than pulling the tanks.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

Does the needle seem stuck? Sometimes they can get stuck by being put on too much. You might want try and remove the needle and re install it.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I don't think its the needle because on startup, the needle will sweep the whole face of the gauge.

Any other responses, keep them coming.

I think this is one of the symptoms of the fuel sender problem. When I treat my fuel system with Techron the needle moves a little more towards the full mark, but it never goes all the way. I would rather continue the treatment then have it repaired. I just don't want to end up with other problems from the repair, always a possibility. Maybe this spring I'll tackle it myself.

Mine hasn't improved yet. I'm going to keep trying Techron, but I'm not too optimistic its going to fix it.

What kind of labor expense is involved with replacing the sending unit?

I'm going to try the seafoam because I have nothing to lose but I'm not expecting much with my problem.

Is Seafoam a different solution than Chevron Techron?

there was a TSB about the gas filler neck......

It would cause the pump to shut off early..before the tank was actually full.

Found it...http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/....php?qstId=542

One guy on here actually cut an inch or so off his original part and it fixed his problem

You don't actually have to drop the tank. Just the metal shielding in front of the rear tire.

Then drain the tank. (unscrew the plate from the tank. There's a reusable rubber/neoprene gasket that seals the cover plate to the tank.)

The sending unit, pump, piping etc are all on the back of the tank facing the rear tire. You have to take the tire off.

It's actually pretty easy to get to. The emptying of the tank is the biggest pain.

The worst part is the ridiculous cost of the new part. $287!!?!?!? Just for the sending unit.

Thank you both for the information. If there is a Service Bulletin, does that mean they will fix your vette even if its out of warranty?

No...a tsb is not a recall.

It's for the techs working on your car.
