Those of you with A4s.
How often do you change the fluid and the filter ?

Just a stock 99 DD.

Thanks,

Service Manual recommend 100K, under light operation.... most change at 50K . Had mine change at 33K due to a small leak around the pan gasket.

I reccomend every 20K miles or every couple years..

I like doing a pan off then flush and alternating each service. As a pan off service does not drain all the fluid as the torq converter holds a good amount of fluid.

We also sell trans filter kits for the C5 for $25, I'll give you free shipping on one if you are interested. E-mail me at Rick@RickAnthonyMotorsports.net or call 630-991-0622

I'm in a temperate climate (Rick, I lived in Naperville for several years - nice area, but y'all get COLD around there), so shoot for 30k, but I'm a believer that maintenance is key. Got way over 125k out of a '94 GMC 1500, pulling a travel trailer some, and the friend who bought it is over 200k. Changed fluid every 35k more or less - more often when the trailer was being used.

You could probably overdo the changes, but it's hard to imagine...

50K miles for me. And the old stuff didn't look too bad. Best to flush out and change all the fluid, including the converter.

When I read this I thought "this guy must sell the kits"... sure enough

I am a big believer in maintenance but 5 times more often then GM recommends? That may be a little over kill. That would be the equivlent of changing your oil (in the old days) every 600 miles instead of every 3000! I would go with the 5 years/50k whichever comes first.

50k makes sense. ATs are finicky enough that I think more frequent fluid and filter changes are good insurance.

I don't think thats **** if you run her hard or let it sit for long periods like some do but overkill for the normal drivers.
