The C5 is a nice car no doubt. The 2000 has a lot of nice options and improvements that 97-98 did not have. Price sounds more than good. Drive it and you'll love it.
Hum........I don't see a price memtioned, but never the less, I agree with the comments already made. I have an '81 Coupe, currently for sale, in addition to the 2000 coupe I bought last year, and there is no doubt, what so ever regarding what is the most comfortable, most fun to drive, the C5 wins hands down. The C3 looks great, but the smile factor is much greater for me in the C5.

I own a 00 Triple Black Auto, I love the car. I picked it up 3.5 hours from my home, I never got uncomfortable on the ride home. Very comfortable to ride in. The factory new Z06 wheels will not fit on the car, but there are several aftermarket wheel vendors making replica wheels of the Z06 that will. How much is he asking, because I did not see that listed and several previous posters commented it was a good price?

Default C3 & C5

I have a worked 1977 C3 and a 2000 FRC. In the last 7 years I have 75,000 miles on the C5 and I've put maybe 1,000 on the 77. The 77 is a fast beautiful beast but not in the same league as the 2000. The difference in Corvettes is the same in Harley Davidsons. Panheads and Shovelheads compared to Twin Cams and V-Rods. Buy the 2000 but keep them both. No brainer.

WOW... TONS of great posts. Thanks.

Funny post: "Buy it and then sell it." Man... its my Dad. I'd give him my shirt before I took his...

He is 64 yrs young and I just turned 36. (Youngest of 4..hehe) He just got a 300C and for some reason is turning into an old man.. haaa. We agreed $17K for the car. He bought it in 2001 for $44K I think. Overall super clean car and bone stock except for cat back exhaust. The column lock was done and it still rides on original tires... or should I say... STILL SITS on original tires.

I figured if I could get it for under $20K... I could do some mods right away... I think I want a twin turbo or supercharger. I have been looking at videos ALL WEEK and man... they look amazing. Besides... at 36 and still being the youngest child (HA HA) my dad would like me to hand my 1970 to my 2 yr old son some day... I think he might get the 2000 instead

[QUOTE=Mr.Gearhead;1558970017]Hi everyone,
I think having two Black Convertibles in the garage would be real nice....
Having two Corvettes IS always FUN!

Can this be a comfortable driver?

- Very comfortable.... In 2003 the wife and I went on a 2 month, 35 state, 12900+ mile retirement cruise. Never got tired of riding in that car.

Any major issues for this model in general?
- There was an oil ring/oil comsumption problem with the late 2000's and early 2001's...BUT ...from all that I've read and heard it only occurred when the engine was subjected to 4000+ RPMs on a regular basis or for an extended time period.

Any pitfalls I can look forward to with increased mileage?
- Nothing predictable..except the regular battery failure every 3-4 years!!

Will the new Z06 wheels fit? (Had to ask... I like'em)
- They have the new ZO6 style wheel in C5 sizes...

How bad is it to work on them? I did body off on the 1970 and not too bad...
- IF you did a "body off" restoration, the C5 will be a piece of cake for you!

Good Luck....

6'-4" and 255 lbs says the vert is very comfortable as a daily driver, and that's even with a supercharger / louder exhaust. It's still as daily as any car.

I've only got 13,000 miles so I can't say much on higher miles. Mines used up a battery, and that's about it for problems.

Wheels fit

It's tight to work on, but most things are. My '00 modified Lightning was a joy under the hood.

I was building a 57 Chevy 2 Dr HT/ LS1 Auto and all C4 vette suspension. Burned out after 4 years of hard work.

Bought a 2000 C5 auto... is a daily driver.

NO MORE STREET RODS FOR ME!

Mine too is a 2000 vert I bought new in late 1999. Fair weather ride, but I have put 30K on her over the years. this sounds like a great deal from your dad. My question is, what is your dad going to get when you get his ride?

I love the car, no problems, and plan on keeping her for several years. The C5 verts are are light years in front of the C4. Mark

Me too! I just can't find enough about them that I like over my C5 to make the jump. Now I think I will holdout for the C7 and hope that they are something that I can't live without.

Please don't take this wrong, but why do new owners instantly want to put major power adders (install and maintenance hogs), when you can't use it on the street. Therefore the only time you'd use it would be drag racing.

If that's the case, I'd get a dedicated drag car. The Vette isn't the best platform for DR.

OTOH, if what you're wanting is a car for the street (which I think is what you're wanting), then leave it alone as far as FI is concerned. If, in the future, you want to autocross or road race, the stock C5 is hugely capable.

Anyway, get the car from your Dad, take good care of it, give him some rides, etc. BUT, be careful about giving him the keys back!

Have a good one,
Mike

Hahah... My Mom doesn't want me to buy it... My Dad has motives... He wants a C6... hahah I just found this out yesterday from my brother...

As for the power adders... I don't think any of us NEED more power... but having it is too much fun. A twin turbo C5 must be incredible fun to drive. Will I speed down the highway or suface steets like a mad man... NO. But to just have that kick in the A$$ is going to be a wild ride. I have read it does not affect "normal" driving until the loud pedal is used...

Also, I like to work on my own cars as a hobby and I think a little customization sets it apart from others... at least for me it is... I respect what anyone wants to do or doesn't want to do to their car... they own it.. not me. Good comments.

My concern with FI is one word: heat. Lots of heat. Take care of the heat (hard to do!), and FI becomes very nice.

Drag racing doesn't worry about heat because they've got lots of time to cool down between runs, and they're only being used for 15 seconds or so.

If you're going to pick one, then I'd go with the supercharger. Less heat, less lag.

Have a good one,
Mike
