2000 Corvette questions

Funny post: "Buy it and then sell it." Man... its my Dad. I'd give him my shirt before I took his...
He is 64 yrs young and I just turned 36. (Youngest of 4..hehe) He just got a 300C and for some reason is turning into an old man.. haaa. We agreed $17K for the car. He bought it in 2001 for $44K I think. Overall super clean car and bone stock except for cat back exhaust. The column lock was done and it still rides on original tires... or should I say... STILL SITS on original tires.
I figured if I could get it for under $20K... I could do some mods right away... I think I want a twin turbo or supercharger. I have been looking at videos ALL WEEK and man... they look amazing. Besides... at 36 and still being the youngest child (HA HA) my dad would like me to hand my 1970 to my 2 yr old son some day... I think he might get the 2000 instead
I think having two Black Convertibles in the garage would be real nice....
Having two Corvettes IS always FUN!

Can this be a comfortable driver?
- Very comfortable.... In 2003 the wife and I went on a 2 month, 35 state, 12900+ mile retirement cruise. Never got tired of riding in that car.
Any major issues for this model in general?
- There was an oil ring/oil comsumption problem with the late 2000's and early 2001's...BUT ...from all that I've read and heard it only occurred when the engine was subjected to 4000+ RPMs on a regular basis or for an extended time period.
Any pitfalls I can look forward to with increased mileage?
- Nothing predictable..except the regular battery failure every 3-4 years!!
Will the new Z06 wheels fit? (Had to ask... I like'em)
- They have the new ZO6 style wheel in C5 sizes...
How bad is it to work on them? I did body off on the 1970 and not too bad...
- IF you did a "body off" restoration, the C5 will be a piece of cake for you!
Good Luck....

6'-4" and 255 lbs says the vert is very comfortable as a daily driver, and that's even with a supercharger / louder exhaust. It's still as daily as any car.
I've only got 13,000 miles so I can't say much on higher miles. Mines used up a battery, and that's about it for problems.
Wheels fit
It's tight to work on, but most things are. My '00 modified Lightning was a joy under the hood.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I love the car, no problems, and plan on keeping her for several years. The C5 verts are are light years in front of the C4.
Mark
If that's the case, I'd get a dedicated drag car. The Vette isn't the best platform for DR.
OTOH, if what you're wanting is a car for the street (which I think is what you're wanting), then leave it alone as far as FI is concerned. If, in the future, you want to autocross or road race, the stock C5 is hugely capable.
Anyway, get the car from your Dad, take good care of it, give him some rides, etc. BUT, be careful about giving him the keys back!

Have a good one,
Mike

MarkHahah... My Mom doesn't want me to buy it... My Dad has motives... He wants a C6... hahah I just found this out yesterday from my brother...
As for the power adders... I don't think any of us NEED more power... but having it is too much fun. A twin turbo C5 must be incredible fun to drive. Will I speed down the highway or suface steets like a mad man... NO. But to just have that kick in the A$$ is going to be a wild ride. I have read it does not affect "normal" driving until the loud pedal is used...
Also, I like to work on my own cars as a hobby and I think a little customization sets it apart from others... at least for me it is... I respect what anyone wants to do or doesn't want to do to their car... they own it.. not me. Good comments.

Drag racing doesn't worry about heat because they've got lots of time to cool down between runs, and they're only being used for 15 seconds or so.
If you're going to pick one, then I'd go with the supercharger. Less heat, less lag.
Have a good one,
Mike
