Default Grease on Left rear Wheel

It's pretty today, so am cleaning my wheels by removing an scrubbing the inside. The right rear wheel has a grease/dirt mixture that is thick, and Simple Green won't remove. I finally used Brush cleaning solvent and a wire brush. Now I'm wonderig where the c**P came from. Any suggestions? It is on all the parts behind the rotor.

Your CV boot his torn and needs to be replaced, you may not see anything but all it takes is a very small pin hole and the grease will be everywhere.

Okay. How bad is this? Can I drive the car a short way? Should I replace the left side also...65K miles on a 99 coupe?

Replacing the boot is a hassel unless you are pretty mechanically inclined. Mine was leaking and I found a used axle and replaced the whole thing. Don't change the other side unless you have to.

While I consider myself mecanically inclined, I may just take it to the chevy house. Thanks to all for guidance.
