Went to run some errands....parked the vette, came back out 20 min later, went to start it, everything lit up like normal, but....would NOT start, the engine didn't even turn over??!! I waited 10 min then tried it again...and it started right up....But the check engine light is now on....any idea what happened?!!

Sounds like you got a case of Dead Battery Syndrome. (DBS)

 

So I'll probably need a new battery?

 

I had a similiar issue a while back. But, instead of the check engine light coming on, my security light came on. It ended up being a broken wire to the ignition cylinder that was tripping the security system. Due to the broken wire, the BCM wouldn't read the VATS resistor in the key. I changed out the cylinder and it all went away. If your issue is related to the security system, you have to wait 3 minutes between key cycles before the car will start. By checking your codes, you can determing if this is your issue. You would be getting a BCM code related to the security.

Passive Keyless entry???

 

The code is for the VATS resistor in your key, not the passive keyless entry. Your BCM is unable to read the code on the key and thus gives a security fault. I got a B2721, but yours is related to the security too. You can try cleaning the pellet on your key, but my guess is that you have the same issue I did. You will probably have to replace the ignition lock cylinder (not the ignition switch). After you buy a new cylinder, take it to a locksmith and have it cut to fit your key. Then, install and your problem should be gone!

That should be fairly easy to troubleshoot, provided you have a repair manual. The BCM did not read the correct resistance when the key was inserted in the lock. Make sure the key is clean. There is a resistor pellet in the key that must match what the BCM expects to see. Try your spare key. It cound also be the ignition cylinder, ignition switch or a bad connection between the ignition switch and the BCM or the BCM itself.

My car does the samething every so often. Is it hard to take out the ignition cylinder?
