Several things were done to get the extra 20 HP ...

GM switched to a higher lift cam .... and because of theat change, went with sodium filled exhaust valves and hollow stem intake valves making them lighter than the 2001 LS6 valves.

The 2001 has pre-cats while later Z06's do not, helping lower exhaust back pressure. Also the MAF and air filter assembly were changed to improve intake air flow.
