Last week I was talking with the Service Manager about thermostats and he told me that I should not have a 160 degree Hypertech powerstat installed without having the Hypertech programmer. He also explained that he was also a Hypertech dealer (in his spare time).
All the T-stat has really done is lower the avg. running temps from 192 to 178.
From what I understand the LS1 runs better @ 180 degrees vs. higher temps.
The Service Manager said it ran better at 220?
What's the scope on the right T-Stat for my mods, I'm also considering LT headers.
Just in my own lil pond. I have raced best (1/4 mile only) when my oil was 220 or so and my coolant between 185-190. No hard evidence (besides picking up some mph), just my own perceptions. I think 172 would be to low. IMO
Intel55,
I crusie @ 178 on the highway, if I would drag race or Autox I would have to keep the A/C on to kick on the fans to try to stay around 190-200.
