Labor $$...what am I not getting?
This has happened twice now....
I want to get new heads.....not a cam....just heads...I like my cam...
I go to a vendor ....they give a Head/Cam package price and then take out $350 for the cam...
What about the cam labor....
Rough numbers.....
Heads $2300
Gaskets/pushrods...I dunno $300ish
Tune $500
Tax $250ish
Estimate I recieved ....$4500.....
$1100+ labor to swap heads...?.....How many hours are we talking here....?

Im not sure who your talking to about doing your labor but thats just wrong. Any sane person would know that $1100 labor to swap heads is absurd !!

I had a H/C swap $1200.00 ( $800.00 cam labor and $400.00 heads install) labor plus parts i.e. timing chain, oil pump, head bolts, gaskets, fluids and tune came to about $2100.00 This was with me bringing in my own cam and heads.

$400 head install seems fair....

Call these guys and see if they'd be interested. I've talked to them and they seem pretty sharp. Don't know if they'd do it, but give 'em a try ...

To say nothing of $500 for the tuning effort required after a head swap.
It's not like the tuner has to make a huge cam idle like a stocker.
So basically $1,650 in labor charges for a one day job.
I think you can find a better deal if you shop around.

I would contact the shop that gave you that estimate cause it may be an honest mistake. It happens and it happened to me. The tuner shop I deal with had a computer error, but the shop personnel caught it and adjusted the price. It looks like the person that wrote you up didn't catch the error.

This seems to be the case...I sent an E-mail and received both a call and an E-mail in return explaining that the estimate was in error...
revised is almost $600 cheaper.....
