transmission grinds from first to second

transmission grinds from first to second
i have a 2001 C5..trans shifts great..but when i put the power down i have a grind from first to second when it goes in and the rest of the shifts are great.
Can anyone tell my why it does this..and is this common.

I had this problem. My blocker rings were busted, and my syncros were on their way out. I waited to long and messed up the gear also. (I bought the car used, it was already doing it) Anyway, I had my tranny taken apart and that was the problem. The rest of the tranny was fine, but the 1-2 moving parts were all screwed up.
The gear was about $140, the blocker rings are more though. I just had a complete transmission overhaul done with upgraded parts, I am now warranteed up to 700 HP.
