I'm planning on modding my 2003 MN6 Z06 at some point, and would really like to end up around that magical 500 RWP point.
However, I am a little reluctant at the idea of going beyond bolt-ons (other than heads).
What kind of sacrifice, in round numbers, do you think I would be making to just do LG streets, stock TI exhaust, Trick flow or AFR heads, FAST intake (perhaps ported), VARAM VR-2B air intake, 90MM TB, underdrive pullies, and a tune. I probably would go with some heavy duty pushrods & better springs, perhaps might even try some High ratio rockers...
Also, any suggestions would be appreciated for alternative ways to make up for the loss inherent in retaining the stock bump stick (FYI, not interested in spray at all, might consider blower but want to keep stock hood and $$$ is a consideration).
I don't think it'll be possible to hit 500RWHP without a BIG cam unless you go F/I... Instead of getting heads, etc. look into just getting a used procharger from the forum and get that put on. You'll get to keep your stock hood, but with the procharger/clutch/install/tune you'll probably be looking at $6-7K. Should put you close to 500rw
There is no way you will get 500rwhp without a cam - and a pretty big one at that.
If you want to retain the stock drivability, just get a blower. All those supporting mods with no cam is pretty silly. At least get a 'stealth' cam of some sort. They have 95% normal drivability and idle but with greatly increased power.
I agree with the others --I don't think you can hit 500RWHP with or without a cam---With a cam and the mods you speak of I would estimate about 450 to 465---Without a cam you won't get the full benefit of the heads so their contribution dramatically lowers. So I would guess you'd only get about 420-430.The only way to hit 500RWHP in my opinion would be to add a supercharger or turbo/turbos.
Either way i don't think driveability will be an issue especially with a M6.If you go thru all the trouble of a head change why wouldn't you change the cam ?? I would feel more comfortble with reliability with a cam over 1.85 rockers any day
