Only time will tell. I do know that my Nitto DR's are a superb balance between street and track especially for people like me who leave them permanently mounted. I have them on for close to two years, drove to Carlisle, PA and back and they still have decent tread. I'm pretty sure that the M/T's will not be nearly as forgiving on the street. Of course I'm sure that the M/T's & BFG's hook better at the track and the M/T's are probably considered a track only tire. We shall see.
I know alot of people waiting for M/T to release the dr's in 18's and I'm questioning if you think they are that much better then BFG'S?
I use the M/T DR's and they hook just fine. They are also okay on the street to/from the track. I have never had them in the wet weather so I cannot comment on that.
I used the M/T dr's for a while in 17 inch. The grip was great but their was a side effect. When the rubber came off during a burnout it got all over the car. Yea that's normal, but the compound they use is the biggest mess you ever saw to clean up.
The only thing that really worked to get it off the car was WD-40. But when I applied it the tire chips turned into a grease or tar like substance. Gad! What a mess!
Keeping the car clean was the biggest hassle I have ever encountered so I went to BFG's. They held well and were much easier to clean up after. No more M/T dr's for me, the mess got all over me and the car, yuck!
Get a roll of blue 3M Painters tape. Tape behind the rear wheels and a little in front of the rear wheels. After racing, just pull the tape off. Won't hurt the paint and you don't have to worry about cleaning off that mess anymore.
Thanks for the tip. I did try that. The problem is that the rubber gets catapulted into the air so it also ends up on the rear deck and sometimes even the roof. I also had a great deal of difficulty getting the tape to stick to a Zaino coated surface. In the end the best solution was to change tires.
