Took my '04 Vert in for LOF and what I thought was an issue with motor. Tech told me it was when the computer turned on the traction control. He said when he turned it off it ran GREAT! How do you turn off the traction control?
Here we go again. I'll bet this is your first C5, you bought the car used and it came with tire sizes different than stock. The rear tire diameter must be larger than the front. Otherwise the computer thinks you are spinning the rear tires. You can turn off traction control and active handling by pushing the button on your console. If you hold the button down for about 10 seconds, it will turn off traction control but leave active handling on. They call this the competitive driving mode.
....Actually you are part right. This is my 1st 'Vette I bought it new in June '04 for my wifes birthday, she really does not like it as well as I do. It has only 12000 miles and the original factory tires and mag wheels. Thank you I will check it out myself
Hold the active handling button down until "competitive driving" displays on the DIC. You can hit reset to clear that message, but you will be in that mode until you shut the car off or hit the button again.
It's best to be careful if you turn off active handling...

I didn't mean to offend you but all that information is in the owners manual and is summed up very nicely in just a page or two. If you are an original owner, I am quite surprised that you are not aware of how to turn off TC and AH. If you bought the car used and didn't get a manual, I can understand. There have been so many threads started here on this subject and 90% of them were due to incorrect tire sizes. If that is not the problem, I'm sure there is someone here who could give you more information about the possibility of sensors gone bad. Good luck

Its under warranty until June of this year unless you have over 36K miles so did he fix the problem you were having or just tell you to turn off the TC?
What he said was on a hard launch the computer turns on the traction control and it falls on its face. When traction control off there is no problem so I assume he is right.
Not offended at all I have read the manual but simply did not remember and thought it easier to ask the forum, we get GREAT information here from people who have owned many 'vettes

OK makes sense now. Didn't know you were hard launching when the TC activated.

Is this the first time in 3 years that you've launched hard enough to activate traction control? Just curious.
Forgot to turn it off, and was showing off to an acquaintance. Anyway, I nailed it hard (on private property), heard the tires scrub just a little, then it fell FLAT on its figurative face. Ooops!
