As in like, ditch the power steering, and switch to manual steering?? If that's what the thread is about, I 2nd the "why" question.

Hey Dominic, it's Lance, I bought your wheels a year ago.

I've wanted to do this on another car for the same reason; ditching the pump and making room for FI. What I was going to do was dissasemble the rack and remove the valve body from the steering input, and also remove the piston from the rack, seal it back up and fill it halfway with PS fluid to keep it lubed. Then connect the fluid in to the fluid out and call it a day.

My problem was the steering rack was assembled without service in mind... the bearings on the steering input were pressed in and I have no way of getting them out.

Maybe someone else has some better suggestions?

Sorry to be so long getting back... I was actually in Ottawa all weekend, skied at Tremblant on Sat.

The rack was for a Saturn. I haven't really looked closely at a C5 rack before, but I know that the racks in the F-Bodies are similar to the Saturn design. I think most GM cars use a very similar rack design with just the attachment points and gear ratios tailored for the application, so it wouldn't really surprise me to see the same problems getting a C5 rack appart. It can't hurt to try, though, maybe get one from a scrapyard and see what you can do?

My car is well, no real mods last year other than my 18/18 Nitto RII wheel tire upgrade (thanks for the wheels! Doug has your old fronts for use with a drag setup). This year I'm hoping to get HPTuners and get comfy tuning, maybe get my LG headers coated to keep the interior cool and the cats hot, and try to "fix" the stock shifter up to give that perfect compromise between the rifle-bolt pec-fly Hurst and the mushy long-throw stock piece. I can't wait to get it out of storage!

How about you? Looking for more power I see?

Gave up on the project C4 idea? I think that's what you were talking about before. Good luck! Interested in Carlisle this year? Doug and Sean should be good to go.
