I know this topic has been discussed many times before.
I have a 2000 hardtop and I hate the lights...feel like I am in the dark (my other car, an Audi A6, has xenon lights - incredible)
Can someone suggest replacement bulbs for both low and high beams. I do not want to change the wiring harness, nor do I want to use blue tinted bulbs which I don't believe add much.
Anyway, get some euro capsules with the plug in harnesses and that will give you the best lighting at a reasonable cost and easy install. The design of the US capsule is garbage which is the limiting factore in improving the lighting. No bulb will overcome the poor design.
Fichtner is a good source. The cost is around $100 or so if i recall...not too much money. The nice thing is it's easily reversible. When you give the car back take them off and sell them on the forum or sell them back to the new owner

While we're covering this, is it the case that there is no separate bright beam when you install the euro capsules? I'm wondering only because that might be an issue in Texas when it comes time to get the vehicle inspected? Thanks.
No, the euro's have dual filament bulbs so highbeams are not a problem. The problem with them comes when you try and run an HID system. HID's are not available in dual filament and since the capsule only has one bulb you're stuck with just the low beam.
