Warranty Direct is now offering coverage for airbags, modules, cables, etc. If you already have a warranty with them the added coverage/cost is $99 for a limited time. Question, is there a frequency of airbag problems in the C5? $99 seems high if the probability of using this covage is slim and ultimate costs if you do have a loss are $500-$1,000.

Depends on what they are covering ....
Each airbag is about $600.00 just for the bag unit (and usually if one is fired, so's the other) ... and you gotta replace the SDM if they deploy (about $400.00) so right there in parts alone you're looking at $1,600.00 MINIMUM in a deployment. There are additional parts ( the passenger bag destroys the IP cover, and often cracks the windshield ) ... and then ya got labor .... You're probably looking at a MINIMUM $3,000.00 if the bags deploy.
On the other side of the coin, an "unintended" deployment is rare .... and if they deploy in a wreck your regular collision coverage would come into play ... not an extended warranty.
Even without a deployment, parts for the SIR system are expensive, and the labor is gonna add up too. May be worth considering.
Unintended deployment is really very rare. In a collision the insurance is allways primary. So the only thing I can think of is when the dreaded air bag lite comes on and won't go off. That means a computer module replacement needed, $400+ labor. I do not know if this has been an issue with C5.
