Jay,

Most C5 headers are made out of stainless steel these days which is why a set of long tubes will set you back between $900 and $1500 depending on whose you buy. The ceramic coating is applied to the header to keep engine bay heat down. The coating is maybe .020" thick or thereabouts and is worth the usual added fee of around $200 or so.

I would stay away from carbon steel headers since they tend to corrode and most Corvette after market exhaust systems are stainless steel anyway.

If you buy the mild steel coated headers they can still rust. It only takes a small nick, or scratch to set it off. David

Definitely get SS, ceramic optional. I've had non-SS header crack in a really short period of time
