I have a 2001.
Has anybody experienced this problem?
From the off position, I turn on the dual climate control by pressing the mode button. The AC will always turn on. Sometimes when I try to turn the AC off by pressing the AC button, the led in the AC button flashes a couple of times, and then remains lit. Other times it turns off without any complaints. I'm thinking about bringing it in, I guess they will have to replace it. I just hate giving the dealers my vette.
I believe it tells you this in the video you should have gotten w/ the car. It is not necessarily the A/C that is on, but the compressor itself is coming on.
I am sure someone will clear it up.
I believe the video does make a reference to that issue. Either way, I remember that if you are in "auto" and the outside temperature is above a certain value (45'?), the A/C light will always come on. Wish I knew how much the compressor is actually working.....
Anytime the front Defog mode is selected (either AUTO or MANUALLY), the system will force the A/C system ON so that the windshield does not fog up.
If you set the MODE selector to anything other than DEFOG (i.e. Top Vents), you should also be able to manually turn off the A/C. I've learned that in order to use this system in MANUAL mode, you have to set each control manually (i.e. Temp, Mode, and Recirc) rather than just one.
In AUTO Mode, the A/C will typically come on in any mode, but since the A/C system uses a variable speed compressor, this is a good thing as it runs the compressor often (as recommended for proper maintenance) it is still blowing the proper temperature.
