I was changing my oil this weekend and I noticed what looks like a rear main leak. I did a search but didn't find any other posts regarding this. Has anyone heard of this before on a C5? (03 Z with 29k)
Rear main seals go bad. It happens. If you are sure it is coming from there, you need to replace it. If you have done anthing lately where you removed the valve covers, you may want to check there.
To replace the seal involves removing the transmission. So if you do have to replace it, you may as well replace the clutch while you are in there just to be safe
Thanks Dom. The valve covers have never been off the car but I'll check them before I bring it to the dealership. It looks like my warranty should cover it.
I had a rear main seal leak on my LS1 2000 FRC. The only time it affected me was on long steep (6 -7%) uphill grades. Smoke would come bellowing out of the back of the car. I used it as an excuse to put in a LS6 crate motor. The clutch I had put in a year before was oil soaked and ruined, though it didn't slip. I couldn't understand that one.

there is a tech bulletin about block porosity where the rear cover attaches.it affects 2001-2004 lsx motors
It turned out to be a cracked oil pan! I picked it up just before closing so I didn't get to speak with a mechanic. The crack was in the gasket mating area according to the paperwork. I'm glad I extended the warranty, it would have been a $1300 repair
I had it fixed at Koons Chevrolet in VA and I would def go there again. They were very professional and very fast.
