I have a 98 A4 and a 99 MN6 and my 98 A4 had a slight leak out of the rear of the tranny, i put a bottle of Lucas tranny leak stop in and I'ts been great since not a drop. My 99 MN6 has a leak at the rear of tranny right where it meets the differential? i think it is? but i wanted to try the same thing using a bottle a Lucas in it before i pulled the rear out b/c if that works then that will save me a lot of aggravation. Anyone know If i can use Lucas in a manual? if it's safe to use???
I had same problem leak between diff.and trans
My leak was at the transmission extension housing where the diff and trans meet. At that seam line there`s no gasket it is silicone...so putting a stop leak additive in your trans won`t do any good.
I had it fixed with $1080 at a dealer and had the diff resealed at the same time on that price.
Dry as a bone now

Same problem, same fix and same result...but...mine cost $1,500????? I been robbed...!
Somewhere on this Forum a member posted how to CHEAPLY fix sealant failure (it's not a gasket) between the MN6 and differential. He built a tube adapter to attach his shop vac to the transmission, seperated the transmission from the differential and used the shop vac to establish a vacumn in the transmission and 'pull' in new sealant into the joint. Torqued down the bolts after applying the sealant and no more leak. Cost was for sealant and plumbing parts for the adapter tube, not hundreds or thousands from the dealer. I can't find his post. Hopefully some one will pipe in.

Holy nuts- it cost over $1000 to do the fix? Well, mine was also leaking I fixed it on my own by removing the rear suspension and lowering the transmission/rear/torque tube.

THat might have been me. It worked ok as a temporary fix, but every 2-3 weeks it would come back (daily driver). It got to the point it bothered me so much I just sat down one weekend and fixed it the proper way. I found that using "The Right Stuff" works best about $15 a bottle. Its been almost a year and I was under the car last night. COMPLETELY dry.
I fixed this (short term) on my 01 Z06 untill I get my detached garage finished and can properly fix during a clutch upgrade.
Drain your tranny, clean the case at the seam where it's leaking with a rag and carb cleaner. Get it dry and clean. Apply a fairly large bead of silicone RTV to the outside of the seam, make sure to cover it well. Allow time to cure (24 hrs) and refill. This totally fixed the leak on my 01. Ideal? Nope. It's a short term temp fix, but it works, and it cost a couple of bucks.
I just ran a bead of the RTV myself and am happy to see someone used the same silicone. Now hopefully this isnt a dumb question (i apologize) but where to i fill it now?

the allen plug on the right rear of the diff make sure u use posi lube and synthetic 80 -90 ish weight
i saw an allen plug but it says "drain" on the diff??
thers one on the bottom to drain and fill is on the rear in the middle but if the rears in the air than the front needs to be ( car has to be level somewhat )
Ok i'll check it out. Now unlike Drivinhard, i didnt drain mine. I just cleaned with brake cleaner and ran a bead of silicone. Is synthetic already in there?
