Default Coolant Smell

that past few days i've been driving my vette to the office. i am noticing a coolant smell. i looked around the engine compartment and can't see anything obvious, and the running temp is fine. i'm curious if there is something with these cars that's a common issue (not like there are any of those!!!) that i can check.

Check the underside of the watr pump, there is a weephole, see if you are letting out droplets.

Look closely around the surge tank. I've had a radiator cap lose its tension and bleed coolant, and the return line to the tank developed a weep. Both were easy fixes.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

A couple of months back I had the same problem with my 2000 Coupe mn6. I looked all over and could find nothing on the garage floor. I took it to the dealer they told me the gasket on the water pump housing was defective. Dealer ship told me it was common and replaced the pump/housing and gasket.

If this is the case with your Vette you can check around the thermostat housing you will see a stain and a very small amount of fluid on the lower thermostat bolt.

Good Luck!

Is the odor inside the car or outside? If it is inside it may be a bad heater core.

I had the same problem. Ends up it was nothing more than a loose resivoir cap.

Check the foot well on the passenger side. I just had my heater core start leaking... it started with just a slight coolant smell.

I hope this ISN't your problem!!

Good Luck.

Nothing that is really "common", just need to get under the hood or under the car and see where it is coming from, most places where it would leak are pretty easy fixes, even the waterpump.
