I used the instructions posted on this forum to install my 2007 Z06 shifter. The instructions were great. I opted to keep my old C5 base and installed the shifter itself. I had initially planned to replace the base, however, the third T40 screw on the base did not want to come out (could not get it clear) and it was getting dark.
When I went for my test drive after the install, all the gears but second engaged beautifully. Trying to shift into second results in a vibration since it seems to be just missing the gear.
I am thinking I may need to re-open the dash, loosen the shifter base, push the shift base back a little towards the rear, and re-tighten everything.
If anyone knows what my issue is, your response is greatly appreciated.
Since you had the base loose it's quite possible that it moved forward when you re-tightened it. What you propose could fix the problem. Drive it a bit afterwards before you close it up again to make sure.

Thanks for the response. I did some more investigation on my drive to work this morning. I can put it in second, however when I start letting up the clutch it pops out of gear. The throws to the upper gears (1,3,5,R) definitely seem longer than the throws to 2,4,6.
I will try moving the base back hopefully after work and will post the results in case anyone else encounters this problem.
Great that you posted the results Glad it was a simple alignment tweak.
Thanks. Once I find my camera I will post pics. I did the shifter swap and also installed the halo led taillights. My HID headlight kit should be arriving soon as well. I am planning to post pics and comments on the mods, the ordering process, and the installs.
I am still in shock about how easy the shifter install was to do. I am handy with stuff like building bikes and doing renovations on my house and stuff, but I have never done work on my cars.
I read the forum and figured why not? I am glad I did. I like the fact that I swapped the shifter myself. It makes me enjoy it more
What's the alignment pin? I've read when you do a swap something about the nuetral pin must be in place. Can you show in your pictures what this is.
I believe it is the same thing. It is the small L shaped pin that you use when the shifter is neutral and you tighten everything up. Then, after everything is tight, you take the pin out.
