The lamps are burning out with old age. I hear that radio shack has a lamp that will work as long as you know how to use a soldering iron. I used lamps from www.partsexpress.com that worked real nice but needed removal of extension leads from them first. You need a bulb that has a draw of about 70ma at 12-14 vdc. That will give you the proper brightness. The partsextpress part number, I think was, 105-070. I don't know what the Radio Shack part number is. There are several postings in CF about this and the numbers are listed. Some people are also switching to LEDs therefore the ability to change the color of the displays. This involves adding a voltage drop resistor to each lamp. Some are using a LED assembly with the resistor built in. By the way, the radio will also have the same issues with the lamps. I suggest doing them all at the same time.
