So I'm picking up a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner juice yesterday when I filled the car up w/ $3.27 per gallon premium. and I saw this Chevron product in a blue bottle called PureEnergy or something like that. It promised "improved throttle response" and was for those special folks who "treasured the driving experience". ohhhhkaaayy....
Then I started thinking (dangerous activity for me, usually). With 91 octane the best you can get in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, would adding this stuff help at all? I doubt it seriously, but I though I would query the thousands of experts on this forum and see what the consensus is on this and other Octane booster type products.
So, if you've tried the Chevron product or another brand, did you notice any difference?

Not sure if it helps, if you use Chevron, it already has Techron in the gas. If you want Octane booster, go get a gallon of Xylene and add that to your tank with a little bit of Marvel Mystery Oil.

Or you can contact Joel and get some tried and proven Torco gas supplement. You can then actually feel the difference with the proper tune.
That stuff showed up here in Oregon last spring. There was a flyer that said it "raised peak combustion pressures by allowing the fuel/air mixture burn at a faster rate." I have scoured the Chevron website but have not seen anything there to tell me what PureEnergy is. There is a good read in the Z06 forum about gasoline, octane, etc...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1187875
out of all the octane boosters and fuel system cleaners i have found the techron to be the best.. it will cost you ten bucks a bottle but it works the best,,, trust me ive tried them all
Octane boosters are good for raising your 91 octane to 91.3. The highest I've seen those bottles go is 91.6
Maybe this stuff you bought is different, but unless you are pinging or tuned for higher octane... whats the point? Toulene or Xylene is a different story... I can't comment on the corrosiveness of those though or what it would do to seals over time.

I read the same thing about the seals, thats why you need to add a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil.
Defender,
If you read the link I posted above it does show that some octane boosters really do the job. 1 quart size bottle of Torco in 10 gals takes 91 octane to 96.5.
