Default gear engagement problems with M6(help)

My '97 vette has trouble engaging gears especially at WOT throttle. Sometimes it feels as if the "friction point" is too close to the floor and the shifter feels extremely notchy. Many times the car will not even go into gear with the clutch pedal fully depressed. Any thoughts on this? This car has not been abused and never run at the track. The car only has 6k miles on it and is a garage queen. Is the clutch master cylinder something to check/bleed or is the clutch assembly itself something to look at. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the gears are stuck together from lack of use! :D

Seriously though, try having the clutch hydraulics bled and the transmission fluid changed. My MN6 (1999 with 45,000 miles) shifts much smother and better when it has fresh synthetic ATF in it.

Do a search on clutch slave cylinder posts. I heard there is a fix!

...try having the clutch hydraulics blead ....
Welcome to the murky waters of diving for clutch issue solutions. Good hard info is difficult to come by and having the clutch replaced by the dealer entails risks that should be understood before going in that direction. If you read the many clutch thread, you'll find more frustration than solutions.

So I agree with adamsocb. Start with the least intrusive step. Replace the clutch fluid. The dealer many not do that under warranty (mine refused), since they say clutch fluid doesn't wear out. They are wrong on that; just check out the color of the fluid in the clutch reservoir under the hood. Odds are the fluid is very dark and full of black oily goo. If this is indeed the case, have the system bled, even if you have to pay for the service. While you are at it, might replace the DOT-3 fluid with DOT-4, which has a higher boiling point dry and wet. Mine's being bled tomorrow morning and I'm going with ATE Super Blue Racing fluid.

If that doesn't cure the symptoms, I'd suggest you change the tranny fluid, as adamsocb said.

Let us know how you make out.
