LS2 heads are actually LS6 heads. (243 castings)

They'll bolt right on and work just fine. No need for a special intake, but the 2001/later manifold is definitely preferable.

Other than a bit of compression, and a little more port volume, there's not much difference. If you're considering a head/cam change, go with the matched head/cam package from the same manufacturer. Decide if you want to maximize torque for the street (idle-5000 rpm) or HP for the track. Then get them to recommend a package and send you a dyno run from a similar vehicle they installed their package on.

As a data point, most people are awed by high HP numbers, when it's torque that you notice most in daily drivers. Most first timers make the mistake of picking a large cam that ultimately idles high, bucks and farts at low rpm, and generally drives poorly in town. You need to concentrate on this: Do you want a daily driver or a race car? Answer this honestly, and you'll be pleased with the result. How much time do you really spend on the dyno?

Casting Number 853 or 241
LS1 (Centre Bolt)
99-00 5.7L Passenger Car and Corvette (853)
01+ 5.7L Passenger Car and Corvette (241)
Material: Aluminium
Compression Ratio: 10.1:1
Combustion Chamber Volume: 66.67cc
Intake Port Volume: 200cc
Exhaust Port Volume: 70cc
LS1 has round exhaust ports
Intake Valve Diameter: 2.00 inches
Exhaust Valve Diameter: 1.55 inches

Casting Number 243
LS6
01+ 5.7L Corvette
Material: Aluminium
Compression Ratio: 10.5:1
Combustion Chamber Volume: 64.45cc
Intake Port Volume: 210cc
Exhaust Port Volume: 75cc
LS6 heads have D shaped exhaust ports
Intake Valve Diameter: 2.00 inches
Exhaust Valve Diameter: 1.55 inches

Are you going to do the porting, polishing, etc., or is it going to be a CNC professional job with documented results? And who is matching the springs and rockers to the cam? There's a neat saying in the computer world: 'Garbage in = Garbage out'. Repeatable, documented results are worth every penny they cost. Even if your labour is free, poor or the wrong parts aren't worth the effort.

Do some searching. Find a place that will give you some decent money for your cores as trade-in on a set of CNC heads. That way you'll get a quality product and take good advantage of the bargain price on the heads you have.

They are 2001 243 LS6 actualy. Solid ex, and it is sugested you go with an LS6 intake while you are at it. CAMS... many choices depends on how you drive, and what you consider streetable.

OOps just read down and saw they where 241s, ummm good price but they would cost you a ton to get worked over well and ported. Lots of 243s out there with some CnC work that don't cost a ton and give a great bump in performance.

It's all in the tune down low. A good tuner will make it as tame as you want. A great one will give you the idle you want (tame or drag car) and the response in the middle with the top end hit. Good luck man!!!
Dave
PS or keep the LS1 heads, and put a blower on it

That isn't too bad if they are a reputable shop and you are getting a good product. If you take a look at the high end shops they charge over $2k for their heads. So if you are getting that type of flow then the prices are fine.

If not, then you may as well buy the cnc ported ls6 heads from the other vendors. They flow just fine and will work perfectly in all but the highest hp applications. Mine are the GMPP heads and I am more than happy with the performance of the vehicle.

Chris
