Default Any Tranny pros out there

My question is , I enjoy driving my auto manually(manually shifting 1,2,3), I recently had mods and a tune, with a DTE stage 2 3:73 diff installed, My question is what is the safe zone as far as RPM's for a stock A4 auto, and what temp is safe for running the A4 (when should i be worried when looking at tranny temp guage).

I luv the sound and performance while driving in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, always shift into OD only when I am on the hwy doing 70mph or more.

What is the safiest I can drive 1st,2nd, 3rd up to as far as RPM's.

Thanx folks

I think the limiting factor on a stock LS1 is not the transmission but the valve train--especially the valve springs. I wouldn't worry about the transmission when it comes to shift ponts --I mean don't go crazy but I would say 6000 is fine--I have an A4 with cam & heads and it shifts at 6300.I would say about the oil temps -try to keep it as cool as possible--under 200-215* I put an aftermarket cooler on mine and now it never goes over 200* . You probably will shorten the trans life by shifting it that way-when I manualy shift mine at WOT it really hits hard and I can't imagine that it is good for it-- I tell my customers to let the
computer drive the car and have actually proven it to some guys that manually shifting makes the car slower than if you just put it in "D"

I have heard it is actually better to drive it around town speeds in 3rd vs OD due to the fact that it will run cooler not locking up into overdrive all the time. Is this true or not.

Thanx for the input

There was a previous post about manually shifting an auto and the majority stated it was better as you stated to drive it in 3rd from 50 or 60m.p.h and below.

As for the Temps I noticed a significant increase in Transmission temps manually shifting which is why I had RevXtreme put twin transmission coolers on.

I live in Florida so the temps are arond 75+ degrees outside air temp:
When leaving it in 3rd or OD temps would range from 180-200.
When Manually Shifting 1-3 Temps jumped to 200-227

My buddy Terry with a C5R told me that anything near 230 was not good.

After the Trnsmission coolers installation the temps are as follows:
Leaving it in 3rd or OD 140-160
Manually Shifting 1-3 150-160

I haven't seen it over 160 since I have had the new setup so I am going to do a gear swap and stall convertor with them when I return.

As far as the shifting it 6K should be fine just makes more heat obviously

Hope this helps James.
