Default Borla Rear Section Exaust?

I was browsing the web today and came across a Borla Rear Section Exaust system for $400 for my 99'. Is this a quality system compared to the cat back systems. I was just wondering why the price was slashed in half compared to the standard cat back.

Hey I was wondering the same thing and if it would even work as the rear section or if additional pieces of pipes would be needed? Or flanges made? I hope someone responds here

they are just straightpipes. that is why they are cheaper since there are no mufflers.

MvVette97, You currently have the straight pipes... Would you go with them again? I am debating over the straight pipes, e cut outs, or the Ti exhaust mod...How "loud" are the straights? I don't mind being obnoxious, but how loud are they inside when cruising? My Trailblazer SS has straight pipe from the cats back (no muffler or resonator) which isn't "too" bad but its not a true dual setup. Any info would be awesome!

Be careful with budget priced Magnaflow systems. They make a full catback that's pretty mellow, and pretty expensive, but they make a cheaper "Magnapak" system, that's mostly straight pipes.

I havent seen anything about the Magnapak. I have seen a system for Magnaflows in the 500-600 range.

What if I dont want to use a catback system. Does Corsoa offer mufflers or are they only catback systems. The sole purpose I want is the sound. I dont need any more power, I'm happy with stock power. Whats the cheapest way to go for the best quality sound?

Any new Magnaflow system in that price range will be the Magnapak. If' you've access to a good welder, you can buy cans, and tip, and make your own, but you might end up spending as much, and not liking the sound at all. That's why we usually buy the whole catback as a system. You gotta remember, if you do this, it's really only for the sound, not performance. Also, if you're planning on further mods down the line, your sound will change dramatically. My first mod was a set of Borla Stingers, and when the rest of my system was factory, they were fantastic. But since then, I've added headers/ O/R X pipe, then heads/cam intake...etc. All these things will add to the volume levels. I now have a standard Magnaflow catback, and with all my other mods, it's the sweetest sounding system I've ever heard, without being obnoxious. Results will vary due to individual tastes. Theres lots of soundclips out there to sample, though it's not quite the same as live, it helps. A couple of places that have clips, are ls1sounds.com, and thx2.net.

Thanks for the input. What do you or anyone else think about the flowmasters. Is it the typical flowmaster sound?

What about a factory ti z06 catback? Do they sound more aggressive than the stock c5 systems?

Personally, I think Flowmasters are great for Mustangs etc. but, the ones I have heard on C5's make me
Blowmasters are not preferred on a C5, if they were a ton more people would have them.

I only have heard them (Flowmaster) on muscle cars, and sound clips on C5s don't impress me. Stick with Borla, Corsa, GHL, B&B, and Magnaflow, and then find the right tips/ noise level, etc

The ZO6 Ti system is great, but not that much louder than stock C5, until you add headers/O/r X, and then, they're still pretty mellow. They are super light, and flow well.

Lots of guys try different combos, so keep checking the for sale sections for great buys on used catbacks. I've bought and sold a couple myself, and was never disappointed, at least for a while.

Corsa's sound awesome, I went with the Pace Car/Pro tips for the 2nd time because they are just a little louder at idle, aggressive and MEAN when you get on it, but quiet and NO resonance at cruise. There are numerous places where there are sound clips so you can hear what the systems sound like at idle, launch, and cruise...You need to be REALLY sure of what you are getting before you go with 'straight' pipes, those sound wicked, but are loud too....At the SAME time, you don't want to spend $800. and get something that sounds just like the stockers you just removed. This is something that you will find is truly an individual taste issue, whats loud to someone is going to be "obnoxious" to another, and whats perfect for someone else will be boring for another...Find what you like and then buy, don't get in a hurry or you will be sorry.

I am very interested in Corsa's, however I am not interested in the Price. I want something that is mellow and has a somewhat exotic sound. I am not into the whole straight pipe, loud sound that will turn everyones head in a neighbor hood. I had a camaro in hs and it was straight piped. I want something that will allow my car to be quiet when I want it to be and loud and aggresive when I get on it. I have heard the Corsa's online, they sound great, I would like to hear them in real life though. I dont have any "vette" buddies unfortunately.

I have these on my Z with a Magna flow X pipe. Sounds just like it is described above. Quiet as stock at cruise and loud when you put your foot in it.
