Default Yet Another H/C Install ............

Before I begin many thanks to all who have done this prior to me and contributed their information, I definitely would not be able to do this without that.

Comp 232/236 595/601 114 lsa
TSP LS6 CNC Heads

Some of my parts. Others on the way.

slow going at first but still waiting on parts so I can be patient.

More to come later.

Default Step one of LS1HowTo Complete .........

So far nothing too complicated, however there must be a run on 18 mm flare wrenches in Tampa, Sears, Harbor Freight, Pep boys Advance Auto no one had them. Northern Tool had the flared craw foots so i went with those.

Love the wireless

Look at this though, black wire tie, is that factory or has someone been this far in my car before I bought it? Wonder if the pervious owner had a cam in it?

Ok i still got aobut an hour of daylight left then i'll break out the floods. Thanks for stopping by.

You had a really bad oil leak from your front seal, Brad. Possible woobly factory pulley. Good thing you are doing the cam and changing that seal, and hopefully the pulley as well.

most c5's have the clip on the p/s line, your car is a 97/8(2 fuel lines and bolts on the h20 pump pulley)

make life easier, drop the cradle and pull the rack out the LHS completely

Done for tonight. New cam is installed and plate is in. Stumped on getting the crank sprocket removed, my two prong pulley will not do it. Hopefully Advance Auto or NAPA will rent the tool.

I did try something a little different while removing the balancer. Instead of using a bolt to finish pulling the balancer off and possibly damaging the threads I used the 24 mm socket thatwas used to take off the crank bolt instead. It worked great.

Success

That ratchet from sears in the picture is awesome. That and the air tool nave made the job a lot easier.
But word of advice don't use the air tools to reinstall things, use hand tools.

This is where I left off tonight, stuck on the crank sprocket removal. Hopefully it will come off tomorrow.

Stephen you are right about the leak, it was pretty bad. Got an SLP balancer and UD pulley for 224.00 shipped three day air.

I wasnt sure if I should post my project since there are a lot of in progress threads on the subject already but what the heck. Nothing better to do on a Friday night.

Thanks for stopping by.

Made good progress today.

Got things lined up. Went to the LS2 T/C, got tired of messing with the crank sprocket. Got it local for 40.00.

Melling high volume oil pump installed

Doing some clean-up

Done for today.

Posted here if my cam and crank alingment were correct.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1658276

Showed why the poeple on this forum are awesome, thanks for the replys and assistance.

Well I have to wait on valve covers and accessories, (mine are peremiter) head gaskets (got GM MLS for 40.00 so worth the wait) and SLP UD Pulley to arrive from Brown.

Hmmm, maybe I'll do some real clean-up and paint a little too while I wait.

Thanks for viewing.

Nice job on the cleaning/painting. I'd like to see what the finished engine looks like with the heads painted orange. Not too sure about that, but I'll wait and see. You're doin' great!

What did you use to clean the timing cover off with? I have my engine laying on the garage floor completely in pieces, and I pulled the covers off to swap them to my new engine. I wanted to clean them and then hit them with some high temp clear so they stay nice and clean for awhile.

Looks great, I'm gonna grab some degreaser and SOS pads tomorrow, I have lots of brake cleaner! I was thinking the same thing about the paint, I think I'm going to paint my new block with the exception of any machined surfaces, and leave the heads and cover natural aluminum looking. I'm probably going to go with red though since my valve covers, tb, and MAF are red.
