I would appreciate anyone's help or advice with this problem. I had GM install new rings on my 2001 Z06 at 9,900 miles (it was using one quart for every 500-600 miles). It needed one quart at the first 1,000 miles (not going over 3,000 rpm). The service manager at Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, CA said it should go at least 1,500-1,700 miles before needing a quart & asked me to wait for another 1,000 miles. I just put on another 900 miles (not going over 4,000 rpm) & it is a quart low again. Can anyone give me any advice, or suggestions?
Thanks,

I'm supposed to get new rings next week.
I've been in contact with GM cust service which says they will only honor their warranty to fix the vehicle (install new rings).
I was also told if I did not return the vehicle for service, continued driving it, and it was found that problems were caused because of this, the warranty would be invalidated.
They also offered a 3yr engine only warranty. I already have this in the orginal warranty (ok it may be extended 5 mo).
I would keep good records, call cust service, start thinking about a buy-back or if GM will allow you to trade the vehicle.
Call Chevrolet Customer Service (1-800-something) and get a file opened.
Have the local factory service representative review your files and consult with the dealer about a fix................ or buy back!!
Are you sure they put in the re-designed rings? If they simply replaced them with the original design there may not be any improvement. The new ones are design to eliminate flutter.

How long ago did you have the rings changed the new ring design has only been available in the last few months. Initial reports indicated that they brought 100% of the cases into "exceptable limits" (which probably means that they still used some oil). If you have the new-style rings and you still have problems then you probably have a good argument for a new engine if that is what you want. But be aware that the engine you get will likely be a service unit, an engine out of someone else's car that has been rebuilt, and not a brand spankin' new one.
I had the rings installed on Sept 12th & I was told they were the new rings that were being installed in the 2002 Z06. Also, I file open with GM customer service. As of right now, I am not being offered a new engine, as some other members have been.
