Im wondering if my local tire center is right... He says if i swap from a stock 275-40-18 to a 285-40-18 on the rear of my car that it will throw my cruise and tire sensors, and abs off unless i up the front size at the same time,, Is he correct? Ill be using stock thin spoke rims,.
Thanks
Terry
NO.
the tire does not affect the pressure monitors, nor cruize nor abs. Active handling could be affected by changing tire size but as long as the rear tire diameter is larger than the front tire diameter it will not affect active handling

Yes, he is and no, he is not. It will throw codes if the sizes are dramatically changed but not with the small change you will be doing.
He is thinking of some of the older TPS sensors that relied on the ABS to relay the tire pressure. Rather then an actual pressure it read low pressure (flat) or ok (not flat). This system relied on the revolutions of the wheel and whether or not the wheels were in sink. At least that is what I think he was thinking.
Great,,, thanks for the help guys im getting ready to put some rubber on the rear and wanted to go a little wider. BUT without any problems , Sounds like im good to go ...
