Default Rev Limiter Question?

I was just wondering if anybody raises there rev limter whenever they get their cars tuned. What is the max that the stock LS1 LS6 shortblock can take in rpms. The reason I ask this is it seems like the car just want to keep on pulling past 6400.

I've read that the pre- '01 ls1 engines have weaker rod bolts and arn't as safe at higher rpms. I have mine set at 6500.

The valvetrain is probably the most limiting factor in choosing a redline. If you have stock valves, springs, cams, etc. then the factory redline is probably as high as you want to go. Going higher has two downsides ...

1) Much bigger chance that you'll get valve float and bend a valve, or worse, in the engine

2) If you look at a dyno run for the LSx engines, again assuming stock, they are actually dropping off the HP/torque curve near redline, and you actually get more power by shifting and getting the engine back into the "meat" of the torque curve.
