I thought it was strapped for heat to get to the pvc valve in cold weather or any weather for that matter...thought thats what i read or was told...
You are correct. It was mounted wth the large gauge wire for heat transfer purposes only. They wanted to insure that during temperature changes of the outpside air, the valve would continue to operate as designed.
just an interesting note: 01-04 LS6 motors and the '04 LS1 used the PCV from the valley cover, no strap
That is an interesting observation. I have a 99 LS1 but have done the LS6 valley cover mod. I still have my PCV valve strapped. Wonder if I should 'unstrap' it... Guess I could do so and see.

I don't think it really makes a differece, my new engine will have the LS6 style PCV but I'm going to leave the strap on there.
I put the PCV in my 1998 C5 that has a small hole in it and NO VALVE. It is for cars that use a lot of oil, it is suppose to keep excess oil out of your intake manifold. I know it is not "an official" fix for the C5 LS1, but it is for many V8's in GM Trucks.
