Default Power Steering woes

After driving today, I started to notice a discrete whine. Under inspection I found it to be the power steering, so I looked into the reservoir and noticed it was quite low. But found no leaks or any reason for it to be low, which is good.. So I am hoping to just pour some more fluid in and pray that it is okay. But I need to ask what kind of fluid does it take? I checked the manual and it just said GM of course, but I just change the trans fluid and wonder if that ATF will work for the Z06's? Some power steering units can use ATF and I was wondering if it would work for our cars also. Thanks.

I am replacing my rack and pump due to hi miles and it wearing out. Royal purple offers a nice steering fluid. The oem rebuilt pump i have says DONT USE ATF!! So I hope that helps you. I had oreillys call in the spec to a lubrication approval place to pull any cross referneces but most PS fluids are approved with c5's per them. Check w a chevy dealer for a PN.

Power steering fluid doesn't just evaporate, so praying won't fix it...it's leaking somewhere. Be sure to look down below around the steering box and the underside of the pump.
