I thought mine kicked down to first when punching it while in second gear?
In the past, I know various automatics with different brand cars stayed in 2nd when you started off there. Better traction in the snow, mud, that kinda thing.
I'm having a difference of opinion with another Vette owner.
It is my understanding that if you place the gear selector into 2nd on an A4 tranny C5 that the car will ONLY see second gear.
In other words if you go WOT with selector in 2nd.....car starts in second and redlines to fuel cutoff. The car never sees First or Third gears.
Is this correct??
Are there any exceptions??
DH
Correct!
Not sure if this can be programmed otherwise!
Charlie did a great job of changing my part throttle shift points up thru the gears in drive. Give him a call.

I don't think it can me programmed out. When I asked the tuner I thought they said it was a mechanical lockout, not a programmed one.
the c5 model years are different. My '99 stays in second. There is no "absolute" rule, yes there IS exceptions, but I don't know what model years this pertains to.

Thanks for the info. I know you work with EFI but do you think HPT has these tables???
DH
I have no idea if HP has these tables in their tuning
files--They were in the "shift at vehicle speed " section and are listed as "Maual hold gear " tables---upshift There is also the same group listed in Manual hold gear--DOWNSHIFT-- as well. I've nwever fooled with them before as the stk settimgs seem fine--
