I have a 2001 SS Camaro in addition to my 2001 C5 'Vert. The Camaro has just recently given me trouble by losing total electrical power occassionally. You have to disconnect the battery and then reconnect it and it will then start and has full-power. When it loses all power, I mean it loses all power ... no stereo, no lights, no door locks, no noth'in. Any one have any ideas???
Thanks!
Thanks all!
I e-mailed Bill C. to see if he had any other thoughts. I've changed out the battery to eliminate that as the problem. The charging system works very well per my volt meter and a system check at a local service center. I'll be checking the grounds and cable connections at both ends thoroughly to see if I can find the culprit.
Check all places the electrical mains connect to the car for loose wires, corrosion, etc. Check the voltage difference between the pos. terminal of the alternator and the pos terminal of the battery with the car running and some stuff turned on (lights, radio). You're looking for a difference, which would indicate a bad connection/wire somewhere. Also check the grounds between the battery and alternator and engine block.
The starter is one "hidden" place to check. On my vette, the starter solenoid positive terminal post broke and started arcing and burned the heck out of the wires. Caused all sorts of electrical gremlins. Had to replace the starter and solder new sections on the end on all the wires.
On the vette the starter is located on the passenger's side right under the header. Probably same location on the camaro. See pic of the damage.
