Gas Gauge Dropped to Empty......Reset DIC, All Is Good
Going into work on Friday my tank was around 1\4 and all of a sudden my gas guage drops to empty and the check guages light comes on.
I ran my trouble codes and under 10-PCM, P1431 appears. This is the Fuel Level Sensor, Circuit Performance Message.
I turned off the car, reset this code and started her back up and the fuel guage is back working as well as the Mileage Range Indicator. All was good today on Saturday.
All appears to be fine. :yesnod:
What's your opinion. Do you guys think this was a one time problem or will this return soon.

The problem will return. Take the car to the dealer for repairs. There is a TSB for this issue. Make sure the dealer replaces both sensors; not just the right one.
The same thing happened to my 01. Based upon help from this forum (esp. C-5 Tech) I was able to get through the repair fairly easily. Now, after 4,000+ mi later, no repeats.
When you take it in for the repairs, make sure your tank is as empty as possible. To replace the sensors, plates must be removed from the bottom of each tank; whatever gas is in there spills out and is lost. The entire tank(s) do not have to be removed.

OK. I thought I was losing my mind last night. I checked the gas gauge on my 99 and it was between 1/2 and 1/4... Soon after, I got the 'Low Fuel' Check gauges message. I couldn't believe I could have used that much fuel in such a short period of time. Crap! This means I've got to deal with my local Chevy dealer.
