Will the 6 speed auto (4L65E) work in C5's

I did a search for 4L65E and 4L65, and got only two results that didn't answer my question. So, here goes.

Will the 6 speed automatic transmission that is available in the 06+ C6's work in an auto C5? Has anyone been doing that swap?

I think you'd have to do more than just swap in the tranny ... the PCM you currently have is probably not able to manage a 6 speed tranny.

I heard the cost would be $10,000. That seems high, but it is what I heard.

It will run every bit of the $10,000 as you have to change the rear end, the computor, the harness and buy the 6 speed auto. Also there is the problem of getting a shifter to work. The tranny will not hold up to high HP either.

im sure youd have to take basically everything from a C6, tranny, wireharness, PCM, shifter, everything.

seems like it much easier to shift gears manually than to fork over 10k and all the work to get an auto

Maybe that's because the beefy 6-speed automatic is a 6L80E? The first number is the number of forward gear ratios, the second letter is either L or T and means longitudinal or transverse mounted, the next two numbers are the "relative" torque capacity, and E just means electronically controlled.
